On 7 February, President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) at parliament in Cape Town. This year’s theme is ‘Following up on our commitments: making your future work better’.
The agricultural community has made its expectations clear. In a recent statement, Agri SA said the president should understand that agriculture needs the combined support of all government departments. Members of the agricultural sector expect the president to set out plans for drought recovery, to take the edge off policy uncertainty and to deal with farm safety concerns. Agri SA has identified the expropriation-without-compensation bill, the drought crisis, land reform, rural safety, minimum wages and transformation as critical topics from an agricultural perspective.
SONA provides the president with an opportunity to take stock of challenges faced by the nation and to look at progress. The event will be broadcast live from parliament starting at 7pm on: DStv Channel 408, SABC TV, eNCA, ANN7, SABC radio stations and parliament’s YouTube channel.
