The new flagship smartphone from Cat® phones was launched in July this year and is now available. Cat® S61 is the successor to the multi award winning Cat S60, it is IP68 & IP69 waterproof, certified dustproof, built to withstand steam and high water pressure, and waterproof up to 3 metres for one hour. It features enhanced FLIR® thermal imaging capability, built-in laser assisted distance measure, and an indoor air quality sensor.
The included FLIR® thermal imaging capability is one of the most popular features of this smartphone and makes it much more than a communication tool.
The thermal imaging capability can be used to monitor and diagnose problems quickly. Locate a heat source up to 400°C, even in complete darkness, and diagnose damp, draught, leak, a short or blockages. Its enhanced software makes the resolution of thermal images twice as good, it can now read temperatures up to 400°C and it can livestream thermal video back to base.
The user simply taps the ‘MyFLIR’ app to point the camera and instantly visualise temperature on the phone’s screen as a thermal image. ‘Iron’ is the default palette with ‘hot’ shown yellow and ‘cold’ purple. You can change the palette options for different situations.
To view and edit your thermal images, either access the thermal gallery through the link on the thermal camera app or use the MyFLIR Gallery app. You read any temperatures within the photo using spot meter or area average tools. Again, you can apply up to three movable spot meters. Within an image, swipe up from the bottom, or down from the top, to see the standard image behind the thermal view to help give context to complex images.
