Top fashion houses such as Ralph Lauren and Gucci have pledged not to use mohair in future fashion collections. This follows the exposé lead by PETA Asia that was launched against the South African mohair industry. According to fashionunited.uk these fashion houses followed after pledges by H&M, Topshop, Gap and Inditex, including the brand Zara.
PETA Asia has reported that over 300 fashion retailers from across the world have joined this movement. This includes international brands such as Banana Republic, Old Navy and Mango.
Despite the counter investigation lead by Mohair South Africa that found that the animal abuse seen on the video is the fault of a single independent shearing contractor, international companies are still pledging to ban this fibre in future fashion collections. –Ursula Human, AgriOrbit
