The first mohair sale of the 2021 summer season took place in Port Elizabeth on 9 February 2021, with 53 289kg on offer, of which 97% was sold. Although the offering of the first sale is always mixed and varied in length, the buyers actively competed for the small quantity on offer.
The good competition for mohair among the buying houses resulted in a 25% increase in the average market indicator (27% in dollar terms) compared with the last winter sale of 2020 to close at R329,19/kg.
Responsible Mohair Standards (RMS) certified mohair continued to attract the most interest from the mohair buyers. The highest price of R640/kg was paid for a bale of average style 24-micron kid mohair. The second mohair sale of the 2021 summer season will take place on 2 March 2021. – Mohair SA
