Food Lover’s Market, in partnership with Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, Simpl. Juice and Rugani, is joining forces with FoodForward SA for the second consecutive year to feed vulnerable families in South Africa. The initiative aims to raise enough money to provide one million meals to vulnerable South Africans through FoodForward SA. During the month of May, Food Lover’s Market is asking shoppers to support the Hunger Month campaign, culminating on World Hunger Day on 28 May 2018.

By purchasing selected products in stores, shoppers will be able to contribute towards a meal for one of the 14 million South Africans that go hungry every day.

Shoppers can show their support by purchasing any of the following products in stores: A 1.5kg bag of Tru-Cape apples and a 1.5kg bag of Tru-Cape pears, any 1.5L Simpl. Juice, a 3kg bag of Rugani carrots or a 750ml Rugani Veggie Juice. Any of these products, bought between 1 May and 28 May 2018, will contribute to the required R0,79 FoodForward SA needs to provide one hungry South African with a meal.

“More than 14 million vulnerable people go hungry each day in South Africa, indicating that food insecurity is a real problem faced by a significant portion of our population. With the help of Food Lover’s Market, their generous partners and shoppers, we can help address this problem with the funds raised through the World Hunger Day campaign,” Andy du Plessis, managing director of FoodForward SA.

In addition to the month-long in-store campaign, Food Lover’s Market will be donating 1% of its overall sales on 28 May 2018 towards the Hunger Month initiative.

At the end of the 2017 Hunger Month campaign, a total of R243 937 was raised, which contributed to feeding 280 000 individuals. With Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, Rugani and Simpl. Juices on board, Food Lover’s Market aims to far exceed the R250 000.00 contribution in 2018.
