Klaudia Schachtschneider, Programme Manager for Water Stewardship at WWF SA was recently contacted by a German TV crew to film a water-related environmental issue in South Africa. She suggested a story on WWF’s efforts to eradicate alien plants. Following this she wrote about how the alien plants invaded over a century ago, when colonialists shipped a multitude of tree and shrub species to South Africa for fast growing timber, fodder, shade, tanning material and to decorate their gardens. Little did they know the environmental headache it left for future generations.
