Dr Frikkie Maré has been appointed as the new academic departmental head of the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of the Free State (UFS) with effect from 1 June 2018. This appointment follows a period of two years during which Dr Henry Jordaan acted in the same position.
Maré started his career at the UFS in 2008 when he was appointed as a research assistant in the Department of Agricultural Economics during his final year of study for the BSc Agric Animal Science and Agricultural Economics degree. In 2009 he completed his honours degree in agricultural economics after which he was appointed as junior lecturer. Between 2010 and 2018 he also completed his MSc- and PhD-degrees in Agricultural Economics at the same department. Maré is also editor of the management and economics sections of Plaas Media’s magazines, Veeplaas, Stockfarm and Farmbiz.
Maré says the position of academic head of department poses many challenges but also very good opportunities, and he is excited to assist the department in reaching new heights in agricultural economics training, research and community engagement.
