Over the last 18 months the CropLife SA executive committee has embarked on a renewal programme aimed at giving strategic vision to the crop protection industry. The association aims to serve its members and consumers to ensure sustainable food production and food security whilst maintaining high levels of environmental compliance. CropLife champions the role of agricultural solutions in crop protection to support and advance sustainable agriculture in South Africa. With this in mind, the key strategic areas of operation were identified as:

  • Stewardship
  • Government liaison, legislation and compliance
  • Communication and brand building of the crop protection industry
  • Education, training and skills development

The organisation is in a position to announce the new CropLife SA organization as from 1 September 2018. This comes with a new leadership team, from the CEO to the marketing and communications manager. Below are the new appointments with a description of their background.

Chief executive officer

Chief executive officer, Rodney Bell is known to many CropLife SA members as he served as a member of the ExCo and has an in-depth understanding of CropLife SA. Rod has a B.Sc degree in Botany and Zoology as well as a post graduate diploma in Marketing Management. Rod has been in commercial and technical roles with DuPont at regional and international level for the past 20 years. He has extensive strategic and leadership experience and is excited to be leading CropLife SA into the future.

Operations and stewardship manager

Operations and stewardship manager, Dr. Gerhard Verdoorn is well known to many as he has worked as a consultant to CropLife for a number of years in a similar role. Gerhard has a Ph.D in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and a post-doctoral fellowship in Synthetic Organic Chemistry. He has an in-depth understanding of the challenges facing CropLife and the importance of the role of stewardship for the organisation.

Regulatory and government liaison

Regulatory and government liaison, Fikile Nzuza has a B.Comm in Marketing and Business Management as well as a diploma in Analytical Chemistry. She was previously the regulatory affairs manager for sub-Saharan Africa and has built very solid relationships with the office of the registrar. She has previously worked for one of the member organisations of CropLife SA and has a comprehensive understanding of the deliverables required in this role.

Marketing and Communications Manager

Marketing and Communications Manager, Elriza Theron has a BA Honours degree in Media Studies. She has fulfilled the role of national sales and marketing manager for a beverage organisation as well as a chemical and fertiliser organisation. She is an energetic and innovative professional who is excited about the task of creating and uplifting the profile of CropLife SA.
