Today is world desertification day. More than two billion hectares of previously productive land is degraded, but by 2030, food production will require an additional 300 million hectares of land. We know without food, we are nothing, so today we have some experts in the studio to tell us more about the efforts of the industry to combat desertification and to lighten mother nature’s load a little.

Dr Elsje Pieterse of the University of Stellenbosch, tells us more about this and how it could help to give the earth a break. A soil expert, dr Garry Paterson, from the Agricultural Research Council also gives us some insight on desertification.
