The Produce Marketing Association (PMA) Southern Africa launched a COVID-19 webinar series to assist the fresh produce market with up-to-date information each week. The first virtual meeting was hosted on 21 April 2020 and Anouk Sijmonsma, regional vice-president for PMA Global, introduced the PMA’s international Joy of Fresh campaign. This consumer marketing campaign aims to reassure consumers that fresh fruit and vegetables are available and safe during the COVID-19 crisis.
Deon Mahoney, PMA’s food safety specialist and author of Guidelines for the Fresh Produce Industry – COVID-19 and your Workforce shared tips on planning for and mitigating the risks posed by COVID-19 to employees, businesses, and in the supply of fresh produce to consumers.
