The first virtual Agri-Expo Qualité Awards ceremony of the South African Dairy Championships took place on 26 March. The virtual ceremony was the ideal way of hosting this prestigious annual event in a safe environment during the coronavirus protective measures. The South African Dairy Championship winners, the Qualité winners and the South African Dairy Product of the Year were announced live on Facebook.

More about the champs

It is the third time in five years that Lactalis SA, previously Parmalat, won the Product of the Year. In a press release by Agri-Expo, Marek Warzywoda, commercial and marketing director for Lactalis, said that he is proud of the Lactalis SA team as this award is an indication of their commitment and zealousness.

The head judge of the championships, Alan Fourie said that it is a challenge in itself to manufacture an exceptional cheddar cheese that can be aged for longer than ten months. “The Président Extra Mature Cheddar is full bodied with a sweet nutty after taste that melts in the mouth. This product definitely deserves this award,” said Fourie. – Ursula Human, AgriOrbit
