South African stonefruit growers, particularly its plum producers, are now taking time off to consider their plans for the 2019/20 season, against the background of another fairly disappointing crop in 2018/19.
On top of this, as was the case with table grape growers, they have found markets to be tough going.
One of the country’s leading plum exporters, Jan Hoon from Franschhoek Marketing, said the plum crop was at least 15% lower than in the previous season when growers also had to confront the effects of the drought. – Fruitnet
