Sernick Bonsmara hosted their milestone 40th production auction on Friday, 1 June 2018.
The bull that fetched the highest price at auction was lot 11 and sold for a hefty R410 000. The average across the 50 bulls on offer was R101 360, in comparison to R93 000 in 2017, R66 800 in 2016, R42 000 in 2015 and R38 000 in 2014.
The highest price for a female was paid for Lot 64D – a pregnant heifer, at R45 000. The average across all females was R21 203.
Johan van der Nest acted as auctioneer for the 35th time. The auction was widely attended with 135 registered buyers from as far as the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga as well as Namibia. –Press release
