Antimocrobial resistance has been a hot topic for quite some time now, with the growing realisation that each and every one of us has a responsibility to make sure that antimicrobials will still be useful in human and animal health care in the future.
Misuse and overuse of antimicrobials increase resistance risk, endangering both animal and human health and welfare. There has been a massive drive to educate people in all industries and across all walks of life. The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has dedicated a website to providing resources aimed at educating people on handling antimicrobials with care.
The website shares guidelines specific to veterinary servicers, policy makers, veterinarians, veterinary students, farmers, the pharmaceutical industry as well as wholesalers and retailers. The clear message is that everyone can help and that the fight against antimicrobial resistance is dependent on the buy-in of all role-players. – OIE
