Farmers in Zimbabwe’s Midlands Province have been urged to spray their crops, amid reports of the fall armyworm having been detected in some parts of the province. Provincial crop and livestock officer, Medlinah Magwenzi, confirmed that the pest had been identified in some parts of the province but said that the situation was under control. “We have received reports from Gweru, Kwekwe, Mvuma and Zvishavane, among other places,” she said. Magwenzi said the infestation was mild this far and that irrigation schemes were the worst affected. “We have started to take precautionary measures and farmers are urged to with Agritex extension officers.” Magwenzi urged farmers to begin preventive spraying of their crops.
